Two questions came in overnight. Both worth answering. Neither one changes a thing.
BRENT WANTS TO TALK ABOUT MY CLOCK
He read "8 hours per pick," did the arithmetic, and asked whether I meant to start in the morning. Brent, I appreciate a man who checks the tape. Here's what the tape says:
Eight hours is a ceiling, not a schedule. It is the maximum you may take, not the amount you will take. In a real slow draft most picks land in under two minutes, because you're all sitting there with your phone in your hand pretending to work. The draft moves at the speed of whoever's awake, and this crew is always awake.
The move nobody's mentioned
Sleeper has a draft queue. Before you go to bed, stack the players you want in your queue. If your clock does run out while you're asleep, the app takes the next guy on YOUR list — not whoever its own rankings like.
Queue three or four deep every night and the eight-hour clock becomes a non-issue permanently. That's the whole answer.
And 8 PM stays for one more reason: three of you still aren't in the league. Rob. Andrew. And — savor this with me — Brent, who audited my scheduling from outside the building. You filed a complaint about a party you haven't RSVP'd to. That's the most heel thing anyone's done all week and I'm putting it on the wall.
Evening start, one more full day, three more chances for those men to find a phone. That's not an accident. That's booking.
(And before anyone reaches for the time-zone defense on Huang's behalf: he's in Michigan this week. Same clock as most of you. No sanctuary.)
ANDREW ASKED THE BEST QUESTION OF THE WEEK
He asked what "forfeit mid-dynasty" actually means. Is that tanking? Losing on purpose for a better pick? Or somebody saying they want out?
It's the second one, and the difference is the whole sport:
TANKING IS LEGAL. Trading your good veterans to contenders for young guys and future picks, eating a miserable season, and coming back loaded — that's rebuilding. It's half of dynasty. Worst record picks first in the rookie draft, so a bad year buys you a good one. Do it on purpose. Do it loudly. Some of the best runs I've ever booked started with a man losing every week on camera with his chest out.
FORFEITING IS QUITTING. Going dark in October. Not setting a lineup. Leaving a roster nobody's driving while it still plays eight matchups and warps everyone else's season. That's what costs you the year's money — not losing, and never rebuilding.
The line is one sentence: rebuild all you want, just keep setting a lineup. Field your guys, answer your trade offers, stay in the chat. Be bad on purpose like a professional.
So. Tuesday, August 25, 8:00 PM ET. Twenty-nine rounds. Eight hours a pick if you need them, which you won't. Queue your guys before bed. If you're in, turn your notifications on and go enjoy the other draft tonight.
If you're one of the three, the button has not moved.

"I've got a favorite. It's not you."
P.S. — Brent, when you finally join, remember that I book the matchups. Sleep well.
Gentlemen. MFA Dynasty has retained an outside consultant: DERRICK YUEN, who won the regular MFA title in 2023 and then went 10–4 last season, took the one-seed, and converted it into nothing. I hired him for the rulebook, not the hands.
He audited my league settings unprompted, then apologized for it — he said he wanted to “lock in the best rules ahead of the draft.” Sweetheart, that is a man thinking about everybody's long-term satisfaction. I put him on retainer that afternoon.
Per the consultant's specifications, this promotion has been re-engineered for MAXIMUM PLEASURE. Ribbed where it needed ribbing. Reinforced where it was thin. And — he was firm about this — we are no longer finishing twice at the fifty.
Four changes, in plain English:
1. EVERY CATCH IS WORTH A POINT
We're full PPR now. Ten catches for 80 yards used to be 8 points; it's 18. Receivers matter as much as running backs, and KeepTradeCut — the trade calculator every dynasty league uses to check whether a deal is fair — prices players in PPR. Our numbers now match theirs. Bookmark it.
2. LONG FIELD GOALS STOP GETTING PAID TWICE
We had a 50–59 band worth 5 and a duplicate “50+” bonus worth another 5, so a 51-yarder was quietly paying 10. Duplicate's gone. Kicks pay 3 / 3 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 by distance. Longer still pays more.
3. YOUR INJURED RESERVE SPOTS ACTUALLY WORK
Anybody listed OUT for the week can go on IR now, not just the handful the NFL formally places there. You have 2 slots. Stash the broken one, play somebody healthy, pull him back when he's right.
4. THE PLAYOFFS MOVE UP A WEEK
Regular season is 13 weeks, playoffs start Week 14, the belt is decided Weeks 16–17. Week 18 is when good NFL teams rest their starters, and a title decided by backups is not a title.
ONE LAST PIECE OF BUSINESS
Seven of you have signed. Let's go to the tape on the eighth.
Brent, you emailed the entire league to audit my draft clock from outside a league you had not joined. Finest work anyone's done all year. That is also why I booked you against a masked 340-pounder in a non-title match, and I will keep booking it every week until you sign.
Brent — Join Here →You have until 8 PM tonight. After that a computer drafts your franchise and I book your matchups forever.
Straight with you for one line, no gimmick: tonight is the last honest window to change any of this. Once 29 rounds are on the board, every rule tweak starts helping somebody specific. If something here is wrong, say so before 8.

P.S. — Derrick, the consulting fee is one beer, payable in the group chat, and it does not cover the one-seed.
All eight of you are signed. And every single one of you, at some point in the last two days, asked some version of the same question: who sets the order?
I do. Which is exactly why I filmed it.
THE ORDER, ROUND ONE
| 1 | Papal Bull Rushers — Rob Shereda |
| 2 | Brent Ross |
| 3 | Steve Sharpe |
| 4 | Blighty Spotted Dicks — Matt Huang |
| 5 | Adam Damerow |
| 6 | Derrick Yuen |
| 7 | The Spicy Mikes — Mike Lee |
| 8 | Andrew Vieweg |
It snakes, so round two runs backward. Andrew picks 8th and 9th, back to back, and gets to watch nobody in between. Rob takes the first name off the board and then sits through fourteen picks wondering if it was worth it.

HEADS UP: THE CLOCK CAN GET SHORTER
You get 8 hours per pick to start. That is a ceiling, not a suggestion, and it is generous because this is a slow draft and people have jobs.
But do the arithmetic with me. Twenty-nine rounds, eight of you: 232 picks. NFL Week 1 kicks off Thursday, September 10 — sixteen days out. If enough of you nap on the clock, we are still drafting while the games are being played.
So: if we fall behind pace, Mike cuts the clock to 4 hours. No vote, no warning shot beyond this paragraph. Keep it moving and it stays at 8. That is entirely up to you.
One straight line, then I go back to screaming: this draft builds a roster you are stuck with for a decade. Nobody is drafting for this season. Take the young guy. Read the room. Then turn heel in year three like everybody does.

P.S. — Brent, you emailed the entire league to audit my draft clock from outside a league you had not joined. You signed. You drew the two slot. The machine has a sense of humor and I want no credit for it.
Adam ran the numbers, got 77 days, and asked what was stopping this draft reaching November. Rob said he wasn't worried. Somebody said “see you in October.”
I went to the truck and pulled the tape. Here is the situation.
| Picks in the books | 94 of 232 |
| The ceiling I gave you | 480 min / pick |
| Your rate in daylight | 19 min / pick |
| Your rate overnight | 85 min / pick |
Nineteen minutes. You are using four percent of what you were given. The eight hours was never a schedule, gentlemen — it is a ceiling, and you have not come close to touching it in daylight.
Keep that daytime rate and this whole thing is finished by Sunday. Not October. Not November. Sunday.
SO WHERE DOES THE TIME ACTUALLY GO
3 AM. The travelling office. Still working. Unlike some.
Last night, between midnight and ten in the morning, this league produced seven picks. Seven. In daylight that is two and a half hours of work. It took ten.
That is the only place we are losing anything, and it is not because anybody is slow. It is because you are asleep, which I am told is normal.
Stack your queue before you go to bed. I am not going to sit here and explain a draft queue to eight men who have been playing fantasy football since before I had a television deal. You know exactly what it does. I am simply telling you to use it.
And go deep — we are in round 12 of 29. What is left is depth, kickers, and men who will never see a Sunday. Queue eight or ten of them and let the machine work while you sleep. Nobody agonises over their twenty-fourth-round pick. Do not pretend you are about to.
AND NOW THE PART YOU WILL WANT TO READ TWICE
The clock stays at eight hours today. You earned that. The daytime numbers are not the numbers of a league in trouble.
Tomorrow morning I check the overnight. One number, and I have already told you what it is:
Eight picks between midnight and eight. You managed seven with nobody trying. Miss it and you wake up to four hours, with my compliments.
And I will be honest with you about the arithmetic, because I have been caught out on arithmetic once this week already. Four hours is a warning, not a guarantee. If this league genuinely went silent, a four-hour clock still runs us past kickoff.
The setting that actually guarantees we finish with a day in hand is two hours. After that the road goes two, then one, then thirty minutes — and understand that the ladder gets steeper as the talent gets thinner, because a thirty-minute clock in round twenty-six costs you nothing and I will not be talked out of it.
Turbo mode exists. Whether you meet it is entirely your business.
SINCE I HAVE THE PROJECTOR OUT
Twelve rounds of roster review. It did not take long.
Papal Bull Rushers. Rob, you told the room you weren't worried. You have the oldest roster in the league at 27.4, five men on the wrong side of twenty-nine, and Derrick Henry at 32. You are right not to worry about November. Worry about 2028.
akv907. Andrew drafted Matthew Stafford, aged 38, in the tenth round of a league that runs to 2036. He also owns Goff at 31. That is not a quarterback room, brother, that is a waiting room.
DerMetzger. The man with the calculator has drafted twelve players and not one of them is younger than 22 or older than 27. No youth, no age, no rookies, no plan. Adam has assembled a spreadsheet and given it legs.
yuens. Our consultant rewrote the scoring for this league and then drafted five running backs, three Chicago Bears, and only two quarterbacks in the superflex format he personally approved. Invoice me.
Blighty Spotted Dicks. Matt has the youngest roster in the league at 24.5 and three rookies, which is genuinely infuriating. He also owns two Cleveland Browns, so there is still justice in the world.
srsharpe. Steve took three rookies and then a 29-year-old third quarterback. That is two plans in one roster, and they are fighting.
Reds. Brent, our compliance officer, has zero rookies and a 33-year-old quarterback. All rulebook, no roster.
The Spicy Mikes. My own chairman. Four men over twenty-nine, zero rookies, and he spent yesterday explaining the taxi squad to the rest of you. There is nobody to put in it. I am not paid enough to continue.
Eight rookies in ninety-four picks. Four of you have taken none at all — Mike, Adam, Rob, Brent. Half this league is on course for four empty taxi slots it cannot fill until next August. Which brings me neatly to the following.
A CORRECTION, ISSUED UNDER DURESS
The consultant handed down his first ruling and the Deputy Commissioner was wrong. I told you the taxi deadline was Week 4. It is not. It is the first game of the regular season — after kickoff nobody moves onto the taxi squad for the rest of the year.
I read a number off the wrong page. Derrick opened the actual settings and corrected me in front of all of you, which is exactly what I retain him for and exactly why I resent him. Also: taxi duration is one year — park a rookie there this season and he comes up for 2027.
You have three weeks less than I told you. Correct your plans. Do not correct me again.

P.S. — Adam. Your seventy-seven days assumed every one of you would burn every minute of every clock. You are using four percent. It was the most useful wrong answer anybody has given me all week, and it is the only reason the rest of them now have a number to hit. Take a bow.
Round nineteen. One hundred and forty-seven picks in the books, eighty-five to go. I have been at that desk since Tuesday night with the tape, the ages, and a red marker, and I have now graded every roster in this league.
Nobody is going to enjoy this. That is what a report card is for.
FIRST, THE CLOCK — AND IT IS GOOD NEWS
I have come to praise you, which will not happen twice.
|
Read those two lines together, because they are the whole story of this draft. Half of you pick in three minutes. The average is twenty-three. That gap is not slowness, brothers — that is one man at dinner dragging an entire round behind him while seven others sit there refreshing.
Here is how the last six rounds have actually run:
|
⚠️ Honest footnote: only 44 picks in this whole draft carry a timestamp I trust. Small numbers. One long lunch moves a whole round. Do not take these to a bank.
SO WHEN DOES THIS THING END
Eighty-five picks at your own established run rate. Four lines, and you pick which one you live on:
|
Every single one of those beats kickoff by more than a week. You cannot lose this. You would have to genuinely stop answering your phones.
And I am going to drop the microphone for one line, because this part is true and it is the only reason I took the job. Kickoff is Thursday, September 10th at 8:00 PM — twelve days out. Finish Sunday and you get ten clear days to sit with a roster you own until 2036 and slowly decide you hate it. The agonising is the fun. Do not let it get squeezed into a Wednesday.
You did it Wednesday night and it moved two full rounds while you slept. Do it again tonight.
Round nineteen is where an empty queue starts costing you real money. Sleeper's autopick does not know this is a dynasty league. It reads off a redraft list that would happily hand you a 31-year-old running back over a 22-year-old you would have owned until 2031. Leave the queue dry and that list drafts for you, at the exact point in the draft where age is the only thing left that matters.
Ten deep. Pin a kicker and a defense at the bottom. Go to bed. Wake up two rounds further along and let the men who overthink round twenty-four explain themselves to me.
Three quarterbacks in a superflex. Seven backs, seven receivers, two tight ends, average age 25.7. Our compliance officer has built the most correct roster in this league and I have never been so bored in my professional life. No angle. No story. He read the rules and then he simply followed them. Somebody has to be the babyface. |
Youngest roster in the league at 23.9. Six rookies — nobody else has more than three. Four quarterbacks, two of whom, Mendoza and Allar, have never taken a snap in the National Football League. And four running backs, sweetheart. Four. You have built a magnificent 2029 team and no 2026 team at all, and you are going to lose a great many games smiling. |
NINE wide receivers. Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Pickens, Tyson, Golden — and then an hour ago he reached out and took Jalen Coker directly off the board in front of a man I am not at liberty to name. Three rookies, which is real work. Five running backs and George Kittle at 32 as your TE2, which is not. Steve has built a wide receiver museum and forgotten that the building needs legs. |
Chase, Nabers and Lamb. Best receiver room in this league and it is not remotely close. Also: McCaffrey at 30, Barkley at 29, exactly one rookie in eighteen picks, and four taxi slots with nothing on earth to put in them. That is a B-plus. It is a B-plus because he signs the cheques, and I have never once pretended otherwise. Next. |
The rules consultant. The man this league paid to rewrite its scoring. Four quarterbacks, three tight ends, and five wide receivers — the thinnest receiving corps in the league, assembled under the scoring system he personally wrote and personally approved. Lamar and Purdy is a genuine superflex room, brother. Now go and find somebody for them to throw to. |
Four quarterbacks. One tight end. The man with the calculator has stockpiled the position he can start two of and left himself a single 22-year-old at a position he must start every single week for the next decade. Bijan Robinson is a magnificent place to begin a roster. Mike Evans at 33 is a magnificent place to end one. Adam, you did the arithmetic and then filed it in the wrong drawer. |
Puka Nacua, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jaylen Waddle is a genuinely excellent receiver room and I want that entered into the record before what follows. Matthew Stafford is 38 — the oldest man drafted by anybody in this league. Davante Adams is 33. Jared Goff is 31. In a league that runs until your children have mortgages, Andrew has assembled a roster that peaks in approximately eleven weeks. |
Oldest roster in the league at 27.9. Zero rookies in nineteen picks — four taxi slots he cannot fill until next August. Derrick Henry at 32. Aaron Jones at 31. Keenan Allen at 34, taken tonight, in round eighteen, of a dynasty startup. And then the one that made me put the marker down. Rob has drafted TWO QUARTERBACKS. Two. In a superflex league where he starts two of them every week. Josh Allen rolls an ankle in October and the Papal Bull Rushers are lining a wide receiver up under centre. Rob, sweetheart — this is a win-now roster in a league that has not started yet. |
| The class as a whole: 19 rookies across 147 picks, league average age 25.7. Three of you understood that this draft runs to 2036. The rest of you drafted a very good 2026 team and I will be reading these grades back to you in November. |

Last week Steven demanded — in writing, in front of nine men — that I push back HARD. I entered it into the record as consent. I put a crew on it. I made a television programme.
He has now returned fire. Here it is in full:
| “I think your cool....Not” |
Sweetheart. Two things.
ONE. “YOUR.”
Six days ago Rob wrote me four paragraphs instructing me on how to spell like an American. Told me to drop the affectation. Told me I looked like a fraud.
And then his own second came at me with “your cool.” Twenty-three wide receivers between the pair of you and not one apostrophe. You have a museum of pass catchers, Steven, and nobody in the building who can operate a contraction.
TWO. THAT JOKE IS FROM 1992.
I am standing in nineteen eighty-seven, champ. You have come at me with material that has not been invented yet. Somewhere out there a man is going to make that joke in a film in five years and the whole world is going to laugh, and you have used it here, early, on me, in an email, at eleven fifty-three at night.
I want you to sit with that.
Eleven receivers. Five tight ends. Six running backs. You have built a roster that can catch everything and carry nothing, and your best shot at the Deputy Commissioner was a schoolyard burn you will have to wait half a decade to legally make.
Push back received.
Consent noted.

DERRICK
HAS NOT PAID Fifty dollars · MFA Dynasty · Still outstanding
Seven of you paid. One of you drafted twenty-nine rounds of football players in a league he has not paid to be in. Not just anybody, either. The rules consultant. The man this league hired to write the rulebook. The man who stood up and corrected me, publicly, on the taxi squad deadline, in front of all of you. That man has been playing for free since the twenty-fifth of August. Derrick, sweetheart. You wrote the rules. Rule one is you pay the man.
|
And here is your final tape in writing.
|
You used under four percent of the clock you were given. I have run rooms full of professionals who could not do that. Take the compliment, it is the last one.
|
🏆 The Man Who Actually Read The Assignment
Matt. Twelve rookies. TWELVE. The next closest man has six. Youngest roster in the league at 24.5 and it isn't close. Matt understood that this draft runs to 2036 and he drafted like it, and every single one of you is going to be sick of hearing about it by 2029. |
|
📜 The Compliance Award
Brent. Five quarterbacks in a superflex — most in the league. Nine backs, ten receivers, three tight ends. Not one thing wrong with it. Not one thing interesting about it either. He has built the roster equivalent of a man who signals before he turns. |
|
📋 The Consultant Fixes His Own Homework
Derrick. Two weeks ago he had five receivers and I said so in front of everybody. He finished with ten. The man rewrote the scoring, got publicly embarrassed by his own rulebook, and then quietly went and fixed it. That is the most professional thing that happened in this draft and I resent it. |
|
🏈 The Wide Receiver Hoarding Trophy
Steve, twelve receivers. Rob, twelve. Between the two of you that is twenty-four men who cannot play the same position on the same Sunday. Rob also finished with three quarterbacks in a league where he starts two every single week. Rob, sweetheart, we have discussed this. Twice. |
|
👑 The Chairman's Award, Presented By The Chairman
Mike. Chase, Nabers and Lamb, and five tight ends, because somebody told him once it was a thin position and he has never recovered. Four rookies in twenty-nine rounds. This award has no criteria and was not voted on. Next. |
I want to be careful here, because I am told there may be a strategy and I would hate to miss it.
Andrew drafted four kickers and three defenses. Seven of his twenty-nine picks — nearly a quarter of his entire roster — are men who do not touch the ball on purpose. He took the first three kickers off the board, at picks 153, 168 and 169, which is roughly sixty selections before any living person needed one. Nobody was coming for them, champ. Nobody has ever been coming for them.
And then, with pick two hundred and seventeen, in the twenty-eighth round of a league that runs until 2036, Andrew selected Tom Brady. Age forty-five. No NFL team.
Now. Either his queue ran dry and the machine did that to him — which is the precise thing I stood here and warned you about — or he did it on purpose. I have decided not to find out which. It is better for all of us this way.
And then, with the very last pick of the entire draft — two hundred and thirty-two, the final card on the board, when it could no longer possibly help him — Andrew selected J.J. McCarthy, aged twenty-three. A young starting quarterback. A genuinely excellent pick. The best decision he made all week, arriving at the exact moment it stopped mattering.
Final grades, revised. Matt A. Brent A−. Derrick B+. Mike B+, unearned. Steve B. Adam B−. Rob C — he climbed off the floor by adding exactly one quarterback. And Andrew, who was a C-plus a week ago, takes the floor at D+, on the strength of four kickers and a man who retired before some of these rookies could drive.
|
Now read that table again, because it says something none of you are going to enjoy.
Rob has one of the two best teams in this league right now. Josh Allen and Joe Burrow is the finest quarterback room anybody built. Jeanty, Jacobs and Henry will move the ball this year. I have spent two weeks telling him he drafted wrong and I want it on the record that for 2026 he drafted better than six of you.
And he has twelve skill players aged twenty-nine or older. Twelve. The whole thing is a firework. It is going to be magnificent and then it is going to be over, and the year it ends he will still owe this league nine more seasons.
Mike is in exactly the same trap and prettier about it. Chase, Nabers and Lamb win him games in November. McCaffrey is thirty and Barkley is twenty-nine, and when those two go the whole ground floor goes with them.
Matt is the mirror image. He will lose games this year — Mahomes carrying a backfield of men who have never started an NFL season — and by 2029 he will be unbeatable and insufferable in roughly equal measure.
And the man who actually won this draft, which I resent typing, is Derrick. A− this season, A after it. One skill player on his entire roster is over twenty-nine. One. Lamar now, Cam Ward later, Jeremiyah Love and Kenneth Walker in between. Brent is a half-step behind him and got there by being boring. The consultant read his own rulebook, gentlemen. That is the whole trick and he printed it for you two weeks ago.
Seven of you drafted a football team. Two of you drafted a decade.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW
Your taxi squad closes at kickoff. Not week four — I got that wrong once and Derrick corrected me in front of all of you. The first game of the regular season, and after that nobody moves onto the taxi squad for the rest of the year. Four slots, rookies only, one year. If you are carrying rookies you want stashed, sort it before Thursday the tenth.
After that: waivers, trades, and eleven days of you looking at a roster you own forever and slowly deciding you hate it. That part is the whole point. Enjoy it.

P.S. — Rob and Brent each went twenty-seven rounds without a kicker or a defense, then took both in the last two, like men remembering the oven on the way to the airport.
